A solar-powered reverse osmosis system for high recovery of freshwater from saline groundwater

► A batch process for RO desalination is presented. ► The process is driven by an expanding gas generated from the solar-Rankine cycle. ► A novel mechanical coupling arrangement is used. ► The whole is system is analysed and found to be promising for applications requiring high recovery.
