Improvements in the optical and physical characteristics of black matrix films containing carbon nanotubes on color filters

We demonstrate that novel materials and films composed of a polymer black matrix with the addition of nanostructured carbon for color filters have been satisfactorily fabricated, and furthermore, we investigate their physical and optical properties. The light-shielding capability and mechanical adhesion strength of polymer black matrix films with nanostructured carbon blend are definitely superior to those characteristics in films with microsized carbon black and comparable to those of metallic black matrix films. The pronounced improvement in optical and physical properties of polymer black matrix films with carbon nanotubes is due to the enhanced interfacial bonding and homogeneous dispersion of carbon nanotubes in the polymer matrix network structure.
