Differential effects of nutrient limitations on biochemical constituents and docosahexaenoic acid production of Schizochytrium sp.

Nitrogen limitation conditions could promote the accumulation of neutral lipids (NLs) and decreased the content of polar lipids (PLs). All the four nutrient limited conditions were benefit for the accumulation of PUFAs in the neutral lipids. In addition, MSG-L and P-L conditions could reduce the content of UMs in lipid effectively. The results got in this study have important significance in understanding lipid metabolic mechanism in nutritional limited conditions and be helpful for enhancement of lipid quality.
