Simultaneous production of 3-hydroxypropionic acid and 1,3-propanediol from glycerol using resting cells of the lactate dehydrogenase-deficient recombinant Klebsiella pneumoniae overexpressing an aldehyde dehydrogenase

► Recombinant Klebsiella pneumoniae ΔldhA (KGSADH) was constructed. ► The recombinant strain co-produced 252 mM 3-HP and 309 mM PDO from glycerol. ► The cumulative yield of these two metabolites on glycerol was 77% (mol/mol). ► Product inhibition was serious at high 3-HP and/or PDO.
