l-lactic acid production by Bacillus subtilis MUR1

► A novel mutant strain of Bacillus subtilis can produce a very high concentration of l-lactic acid. ► 99 and 183 g/l of l-lactic acid was produced in 12 and 52 h, respectively. ► The maximum l-lactic acid productivity was 16 g/l/h.
