Elementary sulfur in effluent from denitrifying sulfide removal process as adsorbent for zinc(II)

► The S0-containing DSR effluent was used as coagulants for zinc(II) in wastewaters. ► The formed S0 colloids adsorb zinc(II) ions via electrostatic interactions. ► The zinc(II) adsorbed S0 colloids enhanced coagulation efficiency of SS in DSR effluents. ► We showed that DSR effluent as coagulant a promising DSR post-treatment.
