Use of dry-milling derived thin stillage for producing eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) by the fungus Pythium irregulare

► Thin stillage contains a variety of compounds that are ideal for fungal growth. ► Pythium irregulare is a good EPA producer by utilizing thin stillage as sole nutrient source. ► The biomass of P. irregulare contains a balanced content of protein, lipid and carbohydrate. ► Thin stillage concentration and temperature are important parameters for the fungal culture. ► The fungal culture generated a nutrient-depleted liquid from raw thin stillage.
