An electrochemiluminescent DNA sensor based on nano-gold enhancement and ferrocene quenching

► Nano-gold enhancement and ferrocene quenching were synergized to increase the ECL intensity difference. ► The effects of nano-gold electrodeposition time and ferrocene on the sensor were studied in detail. ► The possible rationales for these effects were also proposed and discussed.
