As MRI contrast agent, PEG-Gd2O3 NPs displayed stronger contrast enhancement and longer retention time in the tumor tissues than Magnevist at the same amount of Gd injection, indicating their potential use for passive tumor-targeting via enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Different from kidney clearance of Magnevist (diameter < 5.5 nm), PEG-Gd2O3 NPs were mainly excreted through liver (diameter 30-40 nm).81
