Supramolecular nanofibers self-assembled from cationic small molecules derived from repurposed poly(ethylene teraphthalate) for antibiotic delivery

Low molecular weight cationic compounds self-assembled into high aspect ratio supramolecular nanofibers for encapsulation and delivery of anionic antibiotics piperacillin/tazobactam (PT). These nanofibers exhibited high loading efficiency and sustained release of PT. PT-loaded nanofibers demonstrated high antibacterial activity both in vitro and in a P. aeruginosa-infected mouse skin wound model.623
