Further evidence of the MMPI-2-RF's ability to discriminate psychometrically identified schizotypic college students from a matched comparison sample

The current study sought to replicate a study by Hunter et al. (2014) in which psychometrically identified schizotypes (SZTs) were distinguished from a matched comparison (COM) sample using the MMPI-2-RF. Participants were 126 pairs of SZT and COM individuals. Results showed significant mean T-score differences between these two groups across a variety of MMPI-2-RF scales, with several showing large effects. Discriminant analyses were performed using both the scales suggested by Hunter et al. as well as by replicating their method of scale selection. Results using the suggested scales revealed satisfactory predictive power, thus providing replication of Hunter et al.'s results. Findings using the optimal scales for the present sample were nominally improved over those derived from the suggested scales. Results suggest that scales RC8 and DSF in particular may show potential for the identification of schizotypal traits. Implications regarding schizotypy theory are addressed and directions for future research with the MMPI-2-RF are suggested.
