Regulation of low-threshold afferent activity may contribute to short-term habituation in Aplysia californica

► Low-threshold sensory neurons (ULTs) exhibit decreased excitability with habituation training. ► Responses in network interneurons and motor neurons are directly proportional to ULT activity. ► Training effects are site-specific in the SWR network with 30 s ISI training, but not at a 1 s ISI. ► A decrease in ULT activity alone can account for effects of training at a 30 s ISI, but not at a 1 s ISI.
