Information theory and renormalization group flows

► We evaluate information loss under Wilsonian RG transformation as a conditional entropy of the fast variables. ► We introduce a mutual information of fast and slow variables as a new tool for RG study. ► For certain real space decimation transformations the entropy per lattice site always grows along the RG flow and such flows are irreversible.
