The influence of neighbourhood design on travel behaviour: Empirical evidence from North East England

► We examine factors that affect travel behaviour within neighbourhoods in Tyne and Wear, north East England, UK. ► Ten selected communities that represent traditional and suburban neighbourhoods are used as case study. ► Multivariate analysis of cross sectional data show that traditional neighbourhood group is more sensitive to soft transport. ► Generic measure to promote sustainable mobility should be selectively targeted.
