Reduction of abdominal fat accumulation in rats by 8-week ingestion of a newly developed sweetener made from high fructose corn syrup

► We produced a rare sugar syrup (RSS) containing rare sugars such as d-psicose. ► We examined the anti-obesity effects of RSS as compared with starch and HFCS diets. ► Long-term intake of RSS suppressed abdominal fat accumulation. ► Intake of RSS improved carbohydrate metabolism.
