► Simultaneous quantification of metronidazole, tinidazole, ornidazole and morinidazole. ► Ornidazole and morinidazole (500 mg) reach more than 4100 ng/ml after i.v. infusion. ► The method is simple, sensitive and specific, with a short analysis time (6 min). ► It was used to find out who had taken other 5-nitroimidazole derivatives before trial.
