Experimental study of an air-cooled thermal management system for high capacity lithium-titanate batteries

► An air-cooled system to maintain safe Li-ion battery operating temperatures was designed. ► The role of state-of-charge on battery thermal behavior was identified. ► Li-ion battery cooling with ambient air is a viable solution. ► This design is more energy efficient than traditional liquid-cooled designs.
