A family of cubane cobalt and nickel clusters: Syntheses, structures and magnetic properties

► Five tetranuclear clusters contain {M4O4} cubic core (M = Co or Ni) units. ► Those clusters were well isolated in the crystal packing. ► Magnetic measurements show that complex 4 behaves as a SMM. ► The other complexes do not exhibit SMM behavior above 2.0 K.
