Group 10 complexes containing phosphinomethylamine ligands: Synthesis, structural analysis and electrochemical studies

► Phosphinomethylamines ligands containing a proton relay were studied. ► Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes containing these ligands is reported. ► Electrocatalytic studies show they function as proton reduction catalysts. ► Proton reduction studies of non-proton relay containing complexes show no catalysis. ► Proton relays are essential for catalytic production of H2 in these complexes.
