LDL dinitrosyl iron complex acts as an iron donor in mouse macrophages

Murine macrophages were treated with [Fe(NO)2]-modified low-density lipoprotein. The resulting increase of total cellular iron level was not accompanied with inducible nitric oxide synthase gene induction. In vitro plasmid nicking assay indicated that chelation of iron in the form of DNIC reduced the iron-related, reactive oxygen species-mediated DNA damage.107
