Theoretical investigation of the mechanism of nitroxyl decomposition in aqueous solution

HNO decomposition in aqueous solution competes with many biochemical reactions in which this species is involved. Based on state of the art computer simulations we propose a mechanism consisting of a dimerization step, followed by acid-base equilibria and product formation. A strong pH-dependence is predicted for the reaction rate.160
