Self-assembly of charged corannulene with cesium ions: Always in the bowl

The monoreduced corannulene in 1 serves as a building block for the 1D polymer based on the η6-exo:η5-endo binding of Cs+ ions to the convex and concave surfaces of C20H10−. In 2, both faces of the corannulene dianion are symmetrically bound to cesium ions in the unique η5-exo:η5-endo bridging mode.
