Preparation, characterization and properties of aminoethyl chitin hydrogels

► The aminoethyl chitin (AEC) hydrogels were prepared by crosslinking with glutaraldehyde. ► The hydrogels were pH sensitive to acidic environment. ► The swelling properties of the hydrogels were affected by the amino content of AEC, etc. ► The hydrogels exhibited good antibacterial activities.
