Development of low methoxy amidated pectin-based mucoadhesive patches for buccal delivery of triclosan: Effect of cyclodextrin complexation

► Low methoxy amidated pectin (AMP) was used as matrix to develop triclosan buccal patches. ► AMP matrix integrity was improved through addition of 20% (w/w) of Carbopol. ► TR solubility/release from patches was optimized through cyclodextrin complexation. ► β-Cyclodextrin polymer was the derivative of choice for patch formulation. ► Microbiological studies proved the good therapeutic potential of the developed formulation.
