Synthesis of S- and C-galactofuranosides via a galactofuranosyl iodide. Isolable 1-galactofuranosylthiol derivative as a new glycosyl donor

► Conditions for the synthesis of C- and S-Galf derivatives from per-O-TBS-β-d-Galf, have been investigated. ► Per-O-TBS-β-d-Galf has been in situ activated with TMSI as the galactofuranosyl iodide. ► Reactions occur readily without need for other promoters, under mild conditions. ► An isolable 1-galactofuranosylthiol derivative has been synthesized. ► Glycomimetics or precursors of glycobiological tools were synthesized.
