CoFeW ternary oxides nanoparticles for oxygen evolution reaction

Electrochemically splitting water requires low cost, high performance oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts. Here we synthesized amorphous CoFeW ternary metal oxides nanoparticles supported on carbon through annealing uniform CoFeW nanoparticles synthesized by solution based pyrolysis method, and this catalyst exhibited high activity towards OER. A low overpotential of 306 mV is required to achieve the OER current density of 10 mA cm−2 by the CoFeWOx/C with optimized composition. The high activity is attributed to the fine-tuned electronic structure by the mixed oxides. This catalyst is also stable indicating by almost no decay after 40 h chronopotentiometry test or 1000 cyclic voltammetry.
