Thermal barrier coatings on γ-TiAl protected by the halogen effect

► EB-PVD TBCs show excellent adherence to γ-TiAl alloys with fluorine treatment. ► Cyclic exposure tests at 900 °C revealed excellent adhesion of the TBCs. ► The halogen effect provides a new type of bond coat for EB-PVD TBC systems on γ-TiAl.
