Selvedge layer in the interface of Pd thin film with YSZ substrate

► Pd-O selvedge layer was detected in between Pd thin film and YSZ substrate. ► Appearance of this layer is due to substrate relaxation and formation of metastable tetragonal phases of YSZ. ► This spontaneously formed buffer layer is a diffusion barrier to enhance high temperature stability of YSZ systems.
