Characterisation of novel precursor-derived ceramic coatings with glass filler particles on steel substrates

► Polysilazane based coatings guarantee easy application and good surface adhesion. ► Molten glass fillers in this precursor-based coating form a 100 μm thick layer. ► The coating bonded well to steel with Cr oxide and Ni enrichment at the interface. ► Thermal conductivity (laser flash) of the coating was between 0.9 and 0.7 W/(m·K). ► Abrasion resistance was increased by adding zirconia and alumina filler particles.
