In an attempt to enhance the core burn up, this paper focuses on optimization of PWR design parameters for implementation in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The reactor core has been modeled using reactor physics codes and analyses are carried out by sequential variation in the design parameters (fuel rod pitch, fuel pellet diameter, and cladding thickness). Different combinations of fuel rod pitch, fuel pellet diameter, and clad thickness that resulted in lower power peaking factor and enhanced multiplication factor are analyzed. It is found that the core burn up can be extended up to 35.1 effective full power days (EFPD) using some suitable combinations. Thermal-hydraulic analysis of the selected core configurations has also been performed to ensure the reactor safety.
