Latent heat storage with tubular-encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs)

KNO3-NaNO3 salt was coated by an AISI 321 steel shell and used as an encapsulated phase change material. The effect of inserts (metallic foam or sponge) was examined. The simulation determines the PCM storage capacity and properties. Phase changes of the encapsulated PCM do not provoke cracking of the steel shell.192
