However, the assessment shows that CO2 capture operations has led to an increase in other environmental impacts such as human toxicity potential, abiotic depletion, marine eutrophication potential, fresh water aquatic ecotoxicity, marine aquatic ecotoxicity, acidification, terrestrial ecotoxicity and photochemical oxidant formation potential. These impacts are mainly due to the additional energy required for the CO2 capture, infrastructures and chemical solvent used. The advantage of using the novel solvent (KS-1) is clear at 90% CO2 capture compared to the conventional MEA solvent.
