Correlation between the ripple phase and stripe domains in membranes

► We study ripple and stripe domains in lipid bilayer membranes. ► We use combined AFM and fluorescence microscopy. ► Stripe domains consist of ripples running parallel to the stripes. ► Thick and thin stripes correspond to long and short ripple periods respectively. ► Thin stripes nucleate on gel domains.
