Mitochondrial transcription: Lessons from mouse models

► Genetically modified mice have helped us understand mechanisms of mitochondrial gene expression. ► We review the knowledge acquired in mtDNA gene expression using mouse models. ► Tfam, Tfb1m, and Mterf family members were studied in details using mouse models. ► These models will uncover other regulators of mtDNA transcription.
