Urinary sediment mRNA level of extracellular matrix molecules in adult nephrotic syndrome

Urinary COL1A1 mRNA level is elevated in nephrotic patients irrespective to the pathological diagnosis, and it correlates with proteinuria, histological scarring, and inversely with renal function. Furthermore, urinary COL1A1 mRNA level predicts renal function loss during follow-up. Our results suggest that urinary COL1A1 mRNA level may be used for risk stratification of adult nephrotic syndrome.
