The sFas/sFasL ratio as a novel marker of inflammation in children with chronic kidney disease

► Enhanced apoptosis, regulated by Fas/FasL system, is typical for chronic kidney disease (CKD). ► We evaluated serum concentrations of soluble Fas and FasL in children with CKD. ► We analyzed correlations between sFas/sFasL and their regulators - metalloproteinases. ► We searched for sFas/sFasL links with kidney function and inflammatory/endothelial markers. ► sFas/sFasL ratio is a useful index of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction in CKD children.
