Lower carotid intima media thickness is predicted by higher serum bilirubin in both non-diabetic and Type 2 diabetic subjects

► The relation of carotid intima media thickness with serum bilirubin was assessed in non-diabetic and diabetic subjects. ► Intima media thickness was negatively related to bilirubin in non-diabetic and in diabetic subjects. ► Higher bilirubin levels may similarly attenuate subclinical atherosclerosis in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.
