Albumin modification and fragmentation in renal disease

► Presence of albumin fragments in serum or urine of renal patients is a new finding. ► Different small fragments were found in serum of hemodialysis patients by proteomics. ► Oxidative stress and increased proteolysis of uremia may cause albumin fragmentation. ► Modifications of albumin structure and function may have a role in uremic syndrome.
