Increased serum PCSK9 concentrations are associated with periodontal infection but do not correlate with LDL cholesterol concentration

► PCSK9 plays a critical role in circulating LDL cholesterol concentrations. ► Periodontitis patients demonstrated higher PCSK9 concentrations than control subjects. ► No difference of the LDL cholesterol concentrations was observed between two groups. ► We show for the first time the association between periodontitis and serum PCSK9.
