In vitro effects of a novel polysaccharide from the seeds of Plantago asiatica L. on intestinal function

► Effect of a novel polysaccharide (PLP) on intestinal function was studied in vitro. ► PLP could slow down glucose diffusion and inhibit α-amylase activity. ► PLP may decrease pancreatic lipase and protease activities. ► PLP was able to bind bile acids and may reduce cholesterol level. ► PLP may have potential benefits for human intestinal function.
