Characterization of novel nitrite-based nitric oxide generating delivery systems for topical dermal application

► We have developed a novel nitric oxide (NO) delivery system. ► We have investigated the effects of copper on nitrite decomposition and NO release. ► Copper enhances pH/ascorbate induced release of nitric oxide from nitrite solutions. ► Nitric oxide induced cell toxicity is more concentration- than dose-dependent. ► Potential use in the treatment of impaired microcirculation and wound healing.
