Cognition-impairing effects of benzodiazepine-type drugs: Role of GABAA receptor subtypes in an executive function task in rhesus monkeys

► Triazolam impaired object retrieval with detours (ORD) task performance. ► Zolpidem and zaleplon (preferential α1GABAA agonist) impaired ORD task performance. ► ORD effects of triazolam and zolpidem were reversed by an α1GABAA antagonist. ► Triazolam, but not zolpidem effects were reversed by an α5GABAA antagonist. ► α1GABAA and α5GABAA receptor action can modulate executive function.
