Effects of maternal captopril treatment during late pregnancy on neonatal lung development in rats

► We studied the effect of prenatal captopril treatment on lung development. ► We observed impaired alveolarization with increased interalveolar wall distance. ► Increased PCNA and α-SMA suggest that developing lungs have the capacity to recover. ► Renin-angiotensin system is required for alveolarization during lung development.
