⺠Mechanisms for sympathetic overactivity in chronic kidney disease are unclear. ⺠High parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels are associated with chronic kidney disease. ⺠PTH facilitates norepinephrine release in human atrium and kidney. ⺠Norepinephrine release is PTH1-receptor but not PTH2-receptor dependent. ⺠A splice variant of the PTH2-receptor was found to be expressed in human kidney.
