Effects of methotrexate on inflammatory alterations induced by obesity: An in vivo and in vitro study

► Methotrexate has anti-inflammatory and anti-lipolytic effects. ► Inflammation associated with obesity can be reverted by methotrexate. ► Methotrexate-treated obese mice exhibit less inflammation in adipose tissue. ► In vitro, methotrexate is also effective in isolated or co-cultured adipocytes and macrophages. ► Anti-inflammatory and anti-lipolytic drugs can control obesity-associated pathologies.
