Die nicht-traumatische Meniskusläsion beim Sportler

Non-traumatic meniscus lesions occur mainly in middle- and higher-aged patients. Nevertheless, they can also occur in young sportsmen. In general, it can be clearly diagnosed using patients' history, clinical examination and MRI. Regarding treatment, randomized clinical trials showed a partial superiority of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy compared to conservative treatment in general population. Additionally, failure rate was up to 35 % of conservative treatment. Thus far for athletes, high-quality clinical trials comparing surgical with conservative treatment are missing; therefore, treatment recommendations based on level I studies are not possible for athletes. However, based on the high success rate, very low complication rate and very short postoperative break arthroscopic partial meniscectomy in case of a non-traumatic meniscus lesion is justifiable.
