The authors believe comparative analysis of multiple topics between Chinese and Western medicine contributes to the gradual-and desired-progress towards mutual comprehension and synergy of both disciplines. Western description of the thoracic diaphragm suggests certain connecting lines with regards to the Chinese approach: the references of muscle insertion and innervation of the diaphragm, as well as its respiratory biodynamics, provide some thought-provoking parallelisms from the anatomical point of view. These are common elements with the position of several thoracic acupuncture points that present, also, possible similarities in their regulatory physiological functions at different levels. Western medicine attributes them to the thoracic diaphragm.
