Rabdomiólisis severa asociada a trauma abdominal penetrante

Rhabdomyolysis is a potentially lethal condition, usually caused by injury to the striated muscle, with elevation of intracellular components. It can present from the asymptomatic form to shock, organic dysfunction, and death. The case presented is a patient with penetrating abdominal trauma, with psoas muscle injury and at bifurcation level of the left common iliac artery. It required immediate surgical intervention, with secondary hypovolaemic shock. Severe rhabdomyolysis developed, with no response to management with intravenous fluids and bicarbonate, which required haemodialysis, due to acute renal failure.
