چکیده انگلیسی
Because of common risk factors and pathogenic pathways, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common causes of chronic liver disease in patients with type 2 diabetes (75% prevalence). Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for the progression of the liver damage in patients with NAFLD. On the other hand, NAFLD increases the insulin resistance and the risk of incident type 2 diabetes and favors diabetes complications. Type 2 diabetes is also a risk factor for fibrosis progression in other etiologies of chronic liver disease as hepatitis B and C. Type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma independent of the presence of cirrhosis or the etiology of chronic liver diseases. Liver related mortality is the 4th cause of death among patients with diabetes following the cardiovascular diseases and neoplasia.
