Intracardiac fibroblasts, but not bone marrow derived cells, are the origin of myofibroblasts in myocardial infarct repair

The findings in this study suggest that proliferating myofibroblasts in infarcted myocardium are derived from resident fibroblasts rather than circulating precursor cells of bone marrow origin.
